In our latest post, we invite you to explore the result of a deck that we recently designed and built which was fairly unique.
The deck featured bright natural wood color composite decking, an elevated trail, and a thoughtfully crafted built-in bench. It was another great project to work on, where we transformed the outdoor area of this home to create a deck that made a real statement.
Meticulous attention to detail

An elevated trail
One of the standout features of this deck is the elevated trail, which adds a touch of adventure and exploration to the space. The trail winds through the garden from one area to the next. It was a great addition and definitely complemented the rest of the deck and the home.

A built-in bench
Completing the deck’s design is a thoughtfully crafted built-in bench. Positioned strategically to maximize the view around the deck, this bench provides an inviting spot to relax and soak in the beauty of your surroundings. Whether the homeowners wish to unwind with a book, have a conversation with friends or family, or simply savor a moment of tranquility, the bench offers the perfect retreat.
It was built with the same materials as the deck, so as to blend into the overall design and aesthetic. We chose to place the bench in this area as it backs onto the greenery while providing a view of the garden ahead.
Plant box around the deck
Adding to the allure of this great deck, we incorporated plant boxes around it, enhancing the natural ambiance and infusing the space with some vibrant greenery. These plant boxes not only serve as decorative elements but also offer an opportunity to create a personalized garden sanctuary.
Deck landing
At the door leading out of the home, we build a landing area leading to steps to the lower deck. The homeowner placed a wooden bench on the landing which was a nice touch.
We used a cable railing system for the staircase to ensure an unobstructed view of the garden while ensuring a safe railing. The black coloring complements the rest of the deck and the garden space.
A large lower deck
As you can see we opted to create a large deck space that serves as the main deck area. Here, the homeowner can include outdoor furniture or even an outdoor firepit. It creates the perfect entertaining space which can be enjoyed in both summer and winter. To help with the winter sun, the homeowner could add an outdoor umbrella or even a pergola.
We particularly like the clean lines of the deck, framed by the raised seating area and plant boxes.
No railing required
Usually, decks require that some form of railing is installed. With this deck however, as it’s low enough to the ground there was no requirement for a railing system, which created a wonderful flow from the deck onto the surrounding garden.
Excellent shade in summer
While the pictures here show that the trees are not in full bloom, during the spring and summer months they will provide excellent shading to the main deck area. During these months the deck can be enjoyed with a morning breakfast or an afternoon lunch under the shade.
Dense foliage
As you can see in this image, the deck is surrounded by relatively dense foliage. This creates a sense of being surrounded by nature, with large trees and bushes bordering the decking area. This will invite a lot of bird life, which creates a great space for the homeowner to relax and enjoy the sounds of nature.
High-quality decking material
We opted to build the deck with high-quality natural wood color composite decking. While the composite material is designed to last the ages, the natural wood style of the decking creates a sense of being immersed in a more natural setting, with the surrounding greenery complementing the feel of the deck.
